TODAY I WOKE UP A GOOD 5 to 6 HOURS EARLIER THAN I HAVE ALL SUMMER…We woke up at 6 am to be ready to go by 6:45 am. We headed to the bus and arrived to our first stop, breakfast at Eggilicious, and I kick started this morning like any other, with a snapchat selfie!

Early morning selfie

Early morning selfie

Next we headed more into the city to visit a sponsor of ours; Nuvango! It was extra cool for me because I would like to open up my own high fashion boutique so their type of marketing is right up my alley! And of course or little photoshoot was also of interest to me!

After our Nuvango visit we headed to the Bata Shoe Museum. I was skeptical as to how much could a museum possible show about shoes but it was super interesting! I especially enjoyed learning how natives use footware and clothing & was specially interested since the museum was funded by a Czechoslovak man, the same background as my family!

After the Bata Shoe Museum (and the best reaction from a passerbyer EVER) we were told we were headed to the mall for lunch & shopping! We arrived at Square One in Missisauga where we were ever so kindly given gift cards! When I was young my mom used to take my twin brother & I to Square One weekly but I hadn’t gone in years so it was such a surprise that they’d renovated it and added so many cute and unique stores! Another highlight for me was my lunch! I was craving something fresh so I got a meal sized seafood salad at Cultures. Lettuce and spinach topped with corn, tomatoes, broccoli and fresh crab and it was to die for, I hope I’ll be able to find it back at the cultures in Burlington, it was SO refreshing!
After visiting some stores (and making some purchases) we headed back to the hotel to freshen up for dinner.
Dinner was a surprise, we ended up going to Nirvana Flavours of India. There was a little dancing and a lot of filming and I just recently learned we will be featured on a food show!
I think today was special because I’ve really started to mesh with all the other girls so I’ve really started being 100% myself without fearing being judged therefore I’m making the most of this once in a life time opportunity and I can’t wait for what’s to come and to update you on it all tomorrow! Cheers!

Surprisingly being ready to go at 8’oclock (in the morning) wasn’t at all a struggle for me today, but don’t tell my mom that! Perhaps I was so eager to get the day started because I knew I’d be receiving the real princess treatment! Since today was our day for our individual photo & video shoots we got our hair & make-up professionally done, which is always so glamorous and a of-esteem boosting, so huge thank you to my hairstylist today, Amy and my makeup artist today, Laurie! They did better than I ever could’ve dreamed and imagined and I hope they’ll be available for me on pageant days (Friday & Sunday) this week!

So shortly after (a much needed) breakfast I was ushered up to hair & make-up and after about an hour I was ready to go! I threw my two-piece cocktail dress on and made my way to my photoshoot. The photographer was great, he was so energetic and had unique, intuitive poses for me to do it that I felt really suit myself and my personality, so that shoot was definitely a good kind of boost to start off with!

All done up for the shoots today!

All done up for the shoots today!

Next up was my video shoot! Being given questions to chose from & plan last night I opted for questions that I could answer that would give viewers the best kind of snapshot of myself, my personality, and what I’m about. I definitely didn’t want to give short answers or keep it simple, because that’s just not me. So as a result and I. Even though I had my well thought out answers “memorized” the excitement made me needed take a second to breath, think, and re-focus on speaking my heart, not like a robot. And in true Christina I did blow a kiss when I was supposed to be “flirting with the camera” which apparently we couldn’t do, although I’m sure it still looked cute (haha!)

After that I got to finish my third blog assignment, which was SO relieving because we are being scored for it and it’s nice to have time to put my full effort into something rather than do it last minute and consequence quality! I highly suggest going to check out my blog post from our sponsor party on opening night!

After lunch those of us who’d finished our shoots headed to our first rehearsal with Shaun and Hollywood. I was using my photoshoot heels, not my evening gown heels so they were quite uncomfortable & big but it was good to get some walking done! I was so insecure about my dancing but I kept reassuring myself “don’t compare yourself to others, you’re just learning the motions you’ll polish it and look fine, and of course smile!” I’m thankful that when we practice Wednesday I’ll have my proper shoes, gel insoles for them, and I’ll have my head 100% in it, not focused on my dance skills or those of others!

Finally, my roommate Sam & I were happy we got back to our room in time after dinner to catch some of tonight’s new episode of the bachelorette, a good way to ease us from the stress, worries, and anxiety that I (and I’m sure many other delegates) have felt so far!

Can’t wait to find out what’s in store for us tomorrow, as we will be notified momentarily, I’m sure there’s some awesome activities coming our way (including a visit to Navugo, one of the pageant’s sponsors) and I can’t wait to update y’all on my pageant week adventures again!

Have a good night everyone and please don’t forget to vote for me unde finalists on Missteenagecanada.com

Today was finally the day! After waiting 6 months I finally arrived in Toronto this afternoon as Miss Teenage Burlington 2016! The week will be filled with photo shoots, interviews, media events, tours & events and rehearsals, not to mention the actual competitions!

Around 7 o’clock we filed into the ballroom at the Holiday Inn Toronto International Airport for the opening ceremonies of pageant week, kicking off this year’s search for Miss Teenage Canada. While I was over the moon to be reunited from friends I made at the Ontario pageant back in January and looking forward to all of the experiences & relationships I’m going to sin this week, I was (and still am) super nervous! I’ve honestly never seen a group of young ladies as beautiful (inside & out), intelligent, and welcoming as the ones that I will be surrounded by this week! So knowing these are the girls I’ll be competing against plus my desire gore excellence really makes me nervous and anxious. I’m lucky to have an awesome rookie, though, so stress is much easier to deal with when you have someone to distract you from it!

Talk about the royal treatment! I kid you not, we, the delegates were showered with gifts tonight! Everywhere I looked so,some was handing me something of only the highest quality (free of course). Hats, shirts, new sashes, workout clothes, sunglasses, chocolate, you name it we got it, plus there’s more sponsor gifts we haven’t even gotten yet! It’s all do surreal, I can’t believe I’m here and this is all happening, we are some very lucky (yet deserving) girls! And of course everyone around me wore a big, welcoming smile! Such an awesome environment to kick the week off!

Now I’d like to PERSONALLY introduce you to our Miss Teenage Canada sponsors!

NUVANGO

Nuvango is a designer clothing company from right here in Toronto! What makes them so unique I’d that their designer collaborates with artists around the world to create Nuvango’s one of a kind workout pieces! Can’t wait to visit Nuvango headquarters this Tuesday with all of the other delegates!

V.P.I. Canada

Considering I brought my sister’s sunglasses not my own today, I am so stocked that each delegate receives a pair of FREE designer sunglasses from V.P.I. Canada!

I was dead set on another pair of aviators (shout out to the girls who helped me search!) So I finally found my pair of aviator sunglasses (as you can see in the picture below!) Thanks VPI Canada – I’ll make you proud.

Here’s a pic of me wearing my shades at the party with friends. *Throughout the week please do Tweet pics to @VPICanada so the good people at the company can read your post and see their sunglasses in action.

Parents can also appreciate that Hashtagio created a single feed for our parents & loved ones to keep up with what we’re doing throughout this week! All of the photos and text us delegates post will be streamed & archived on their page on the main page of the Miss Teenage Canada site and on the blog network for everyone to see!

Sweets Canada

HUGE SHOUTOUT TO THE MAN OF THE NIGHT Sam Dhutia who offered complimentary chocolate tastings for all of us delegates and of course the generous “loot bags” he gave us all to take home-complete with mouth-watering gourmet edible flower chocolate bars and their new chocolate covered nuts! I’ve never eaten anything made with flowers so honestly I didn’t know what I’d think but it was actually a refreshing taste, I’m not a huge chocolate fan but I loved it! And I love nuts so I was in heaven with the white chocolate coated cashews!

Bradlee Ryall Golf Academy

Our sponsors from Bradlee Ryall Golf Academy came all ready to go with their live mini golf attraction, which I’m convinced saw more selfies & poses than it saw strokes of golf clubs, but what else would you expect? We’ll be visiting the golf academy on Wednesday to play a little game of golf, with 2 ladies golf jackets on the line for the winners of the game, thanks to SWING active wear!

Archer’s Arena

So I felt like Katniss Everdeen last night shooting an arrow that seemed to be almost my size! Don’t worry no one was in danger as there was a giant marshmallow on the end, that came especially in handy when I accidentally released the bow, oopsy! Apparently there was a target but I was too focused on looking cool in my photo, haha! I’m so pumped to visit the Archer’s Arena later this week with all the girls and I’m looking forward to learning how to aim & shoot like a pro!

"Carefully" aiming

Oral B offers a huge selection of super high quality toothbrushes, ours we receive are specially monogrammed from Archer a Dental. To me (and other pageant girls) this is so valuable because having healthy, clean & sparkling teeth appearance and health is definitely a very high priority when competing!

Bata Shoe Museum

Bet my mom is super jealous that we will be visiting the Bata Shoe Museum on Tuesday, July 19 at 11:30 a.m!

My banner

My banner

It’s been almost 4 years since I took art class, I was nervous how this would turn out but I’m actually quite proud and with all the stress of this upcoming week, I found the colour very therapeutic!
I kept my banner simple, keeping in mind I want to catch people’s attention but not make them stand around reading every last detail! To make it eye catching I stick to bright, fun, feminine colours that are bright and lively, a few qualities Miss Teenage Canada would also include!

WE GRADUATED! My twin brother, Luke and I graduated grade 12 two weeks ago, I graduated with honours and Luke graduated with, well…he graduated.

Anyways, I felt this was an interesting topic because originally I planned to take a year off from school, after taking 2 summer courses last year and being in the hospital at the beginning of las school year, I thought I needed a break and sometime to determine what I really wanted to persuade an education in. However, having two spares each semester in grade 12 I learned that maybe more of break from school was the last thing I needed. Being like a part time student, I was lonely quite a bit, I didn’t feel like I was a part of the school and didn’t feel like a normal kid my age, I knew I couldn’t do that for another year.

The problem wasn’t that I was dead set on taking a year off, but I really flipped and flopped between what I wanted to do as a career. As a young woman with so many diverse interests and the desire to help as many people as possible, I had a hard time committing to one area of work, and service. Architect, sports broadcaster/reporter, early childhood educator, teacher, chef, dietician, interior designer, restaurant owner, store owner…I wanted to do it all! But of course that’s not possible! So I thought a year off would help me “find myself,” yet consciously, I knew I had to get out there and be with people my age, so I applied to 5 colleges for 5 separate programs and was shocked when I was accepted to every one within 2 days!

Throughout high school I was encouraged by both educators and my parents that my grades and work ethics are no doubt university level, however I personally felt that the hand on approach of college was more attractive to me, I also loved how in just a couple years of college you can earn your degree or certificate and be on your way to your career. Now that’s not to say that investing the extra time in university isn’t worth it, but I feel like after what I’ve been through, I’ve had to grow up pretty quickly so I’m ready to be some a business professional a bit sooner, in my opinion.

So here’s what (I’d assume) you’ve all been waiting for! I actually accepted my offer to Mohawk College for small business & entreprenuership. It’s a one year degree and it was the top of my list because not only is it just one year, but it’s knowledge that is applicable in so many aspects of life, no matter what you do and plus ever since I was little I’ve always dreamt of owning my own business, so naturally since I love fashion and have been encouraged to get into the fashion industry (not just as a model) I figured this course would help me start my own boutique clothing store, a platform to share my own personal style!

What’s great about this 1 year program is that while I’m still able to learn, expand, and get ready to jump into the business world, I also have the opportunity to use this as a learning year and possibly go back to school next year or in the near future if my heart tells me to go for another passion!

I am so blessed with my parents love, support, the word lucky doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel about the encouragement from my parents, allowing me to go back to school if I find another passion and offering to help me start up my future business! I hav so much to look forward to thanks to them and I can’t wait to see what the next year has in store!

Christina’s goal is to live the most fulfilling life possible. She hopes to help as many people as possible with battling and preventing mental illness and live a life with no regrets.

That is my biography that you’ll find in the pageant program. But what does having no regrets have to do with my platform and why is it so important that’s it’s in my bio at a national pageant?

Well, when I speak of living a life with no regrets I mainly speak of not regretting battling with a mental illness. First things first, developing a mental illness is not s choice, the inner demons are not someone would ever chose to attempt to take on. If you don’t choose something you can not control it, therefore it’s not possible to be able to regret. However, where I find regret possible (and common) when it comes to mental illness is regretting seeking treatment. Myself and many other sufferers I’ve spoken with frequently question getting help, fixing the problem, and most popularly, losing control.

But let me tell you, choosing to recover, to get better is not a fight to regret. Matter of fact is it is something to be so proud of, something to share and flaunt, recovering is a win in life. How could you ever regret enabling yourself to have a happy, healthy, normal life? You can’t deny yourself those rights that we in Canada are blessed to have, and you definitely can’t regret making choices that make that possible.

Like I’ve said so many times before, recovery, like most things in life will not be easy. There’s ups and downs and times that are tougher than others, there will be tears and you may contemplate giving up, but you will stay strong, defeat your demons and be victorious, winning a life free from dark, control thoughts, what I want refer to as mental demons. There is no shame. No shame in mental illness, no regrets. No shame in talking about mental illness, no shame for trying to recover, and even no shame in relapsing. These aren’t shameful things, nothing to regret. More so, they are life lessons, as the saying goes “one door closes another door opens.” We gain experience, wisdom and knowledge, and we must keep moving forward, trying our best and bettering ourselves from our past endeavours, not regretting them.

By choosing to focus on the positives like I’ve explained I feel that, at least for myself, it’s easier to improve and focus on what matters, like your health treating others the way you’d like to be treated and serving others, I believe living a positive life makes it easier to regret less, therefore there is less stress and pressure, it’s easier to thrive, and a healthy state of mind is so much more attainable!
